Project Overview

Why this initiative, and why now

Public schools in under-resourced areas of South Africa continue to face overcrowded classrooms, limited access to technology, minimal sports infrastructure, and little structured support for learners' personal development. These gaps compound over a learner's schooling career, narrowing their options long before they reach matric.

The Future-Ready Schools Initiative addresses these gaps through one coordinated, four-pillar programme rather than a series of disconnected interventions — so that academic, digital, physical, and personal development are strengthened together, in the same schools, at the same time.

Pillar One

Academic Support

Core subject tutoring & teacher support

Improved pass rates Stronger teacher capacity

Close learning gaps in literacy, numeracy, and science through structured, consistent academic support.

Deploy after-school tutoring, learning materials, and teacher development workshops at each participating school.

Measurable improvement in term and year-end assessment results, and stronger classroom teaching capacity.

Pillar Two

Digital Literacy

Devices, connectivity & ICT training

Device access Basic ICT competency

Bridge the digital divide by giving learners hands-on access to computers and the internet.

Equip a computer lab per participating school with devices and connectivity, paired with structured ICT lessons for learners and teachers.

Learners graduate with basic digital competency, and schools gain a lasting digital learning resource.

Pillar Three

Sports Development

Coaching, equipment & inter-school leagues

Higher participation Regular competition

Give learners consistent access to organised sport, coaching, and competition.

Supply equipment and qualified coaches, and establish a regular inter-school league across participating schools.

Higher learner participation in sport, stronger school spirit, and improved physical wellbeing.

Pillar Four

Life Skills

Mentorship & personal development

Stronger confidence Clearer career pathways

Build the confidence, resilience, and life direction learners need beyond the classroom.

Run mentorship circles, career guidance sessions, and personal development workshops throughout the school year.

Learners leave school with a clearer sense of direction, stronger self-confidence, and practical life skills.

Duration & Phasing

A phased rollout, scaled to available funding

12 Months

Pilot phase in a first cohort of schools, establishing all four pillars and baseline monitoring.

24 Months

Consolidation and expansion into additional schools, building on pilot learnings.

36 Months

Full-scale, multi-district rollout with programmes handed over for long-term community ownership.
